Barnsley and Swansea City, the two teams who met in the Championship playoffs last season, meet at Oakwell on the 19th of the new campaign. The Tykes are hungry for revenge and will likely fight tooth and nail against the Swans. The good news for the hosts is that right-back Callum Brittain returns from suspension. Right-back Carlton Morris, however, may be rested this time.

The Swans, on the other hand, head into the match after a 1-1 draw with Blackpool. Considering that Barnsley have been struggling of late, we don’t believe that the Welsh team has any more chances than this to get back into the game. Important central defender Ryan Bennett is back from suspension for the visiting team, which is another reason why we are tempted to put our money on the Swans.

PLAYER IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Patrick Schmidt

Patrick Schmidt is an Austrian international who plays for Barnsley as a striker for the Championship Club. Born in Eisenstadt, Austria on July 22, 1998, Schmidt began his senior career at Admira Wacker. After 46 appearances for Admira Wacker II, the 179 cm tall striker started playing for the senior team in the 2016/2017 Austrian Bundesliga season.

Three years later, Patrick Schmidt decided to take a step further in his soccer career by signing a four-year contract with Barnsley. The big striker scored eight goals in the 2018/2019 season for Admira and is expected to shine with the Tykes in the 2019/2020 Championship campaign. It should be noted that Schmidt has played for Austrian U16, U17, U18 and U19 teams.

The Barnsley striker currently represents the Austria U21 team in international matches. His main position is center forward, but he is also used as both a left and right back.

TEAM IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Swansea

Swansea City AFC is a Welsh soccer club from Swansea and currently plays in the English Premier League. Swansea City’s biggest rival is Cardiff City who are alongside Swansea City, the only soccer club in Wales that has played in the PremierLeague.

Swansea City was founded in 1912 under the name “Swansea Town”. The first venue where Swansea City played was The Vetch Field. The club grew in members and fans and on July 23, 2005 Swansea City opened Liberty Stadium, with a capacity of 21,000 fans. Swansea City fans prefer to use the non-commercial name: White Rock Stadium.

In Swansea City’s history, the club has managed to win the Football League One twice and the Welsh Cup 10 times. So far, the Welsh club has not won any awards in the higher English divisions. The well-known players who have worn the shirt of Swansea are Lampard, Toshack, Martinez and Bony.
